The Hike
Battle Creek Canyon was the scene of an Indian battle with settlers during the winter of 1848-49. From the parking lot you will follow a road for less that half a mile. The roads ends and the trail starts on the south side of the creek. Cross over a footbridge to the north side and start a steep climb, with steep drop-offs the rest of the way to the waterfall. The waterfall is located approximately 100 yards after the footbridge.
Allow about 15-20 minutes hiking time to the waterfall. There is a small trail that leads to the base of the waterfall from the main trail. This small trail is steep. The base of the waterfall is the best photo opportunity because the entire waterfall is visible. The main trail continues to the top of the waterfall where you can watch the water split and fall in two ribbons. Some people like to rappel down the waterfall between the two ribbons of stray during the summer.
The main trail pass the falls and continues up the canyon for several more miles toward Mount Timpanogos and connects with the Great Western Trail. From the Great Western Trail you can hike a loop down Grove Creek Canyon or Dry Creek Canyon. If coming from I-15 take exit 287 and drive east on Utah State Road 92 (called Alpine Highway) to the mouth of American Fork Canyon. As you enter the canyon, Utah State Road 146 branches uphill to the south (right). Take SR146 that becomes 100 East in Pleasant Grove, UT about 4.8 miles to 200 South in Pleasant Grove (PG). Ironically, you will pass the Pleasant Grove Ranger District office on the left before you turn east on 200 South in PG. Follow 200 South to 200 East, which is Battle Creek Drive.
